Campaign: A View From Abroad
Program Description

HOW THE AMERICAN PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN LOOKS TO THE REST OF THE WORLD IS THE TOPIC OF THIS PROGRAM ORIGINATING FROM SEVERAL OVERSEAS LOCATIONS. DRAWING ON FOREIGN TELEVISION REPORTING, COMMENTARY, AND ANALYSIS FROM SUCH COUNTRIES AS GREAT BRITAIN, WEST GERMANY, JAPAN, AND THE SOVIET UNION, THE DOCUMENTARY ADDRESSES A NUMBER OF QUESTIONS INCLUDING THE FOLLOWING: --WHY IS THE REST OF THE WORLD SO INTERESTED IN U.S. POLITICS? --WHAT PERCEPTIONS AND MISCONCEPTIONS APPEAR MOST FREQUENTLY IN FOREIGN REPORTING ON THE U.S. PRESIDENTIAL RACE? --WHICH CANDIDATE WOULD BE LIKELY TO WIN IF THE REST OF THE WORLD COULD VOTE IN THE U.S. ELECTION? --WHY DO AMERICANS VOTE IN SUBSTANTIALLY LOWER NUMBERS THAN CITIZENS IN VIRTUALLY ALL OTHER INDUSTRIALIZED NATIONS? THE PROGRAM WILL BE ANCHORED BY CHRISTINE OCKRENT, A HIGHLY REGARDED FRENCH TELEVISION JOURNALIST.
