- Program Description
In 1951, Vera Hillyard becomes one of the last women in Britain to be sent to the gallows -- the final act in a bitter drama of rumor, revenge and murder. Based on the novel by Ruth Rendell, writing as Barbara Vine, this miniseries stars Helena Bonham Carter ("Room with a View") as Faith, Celia Imrie as Vera, Sophie Ward as Eden and Robin Ellis ("Poldark") as John. Episode One - Faith is evacuated from wartime London to live with her Aunts Vera and Eden in idyllic rural Suffolk. However, behind the village's picturesque facade lies a history of hatred. Episode Two - After the war, smoldering tensions between Vera and Eden escalate to a murderous climax. Faith realizes that it is necessary to confront the dark secrets of a family that never bares its soul.
