- Program Description
From homework to proms, today's teens have a lot on their minds. College applications, after-school jobs, athletics, and relationships with family and friends can put a lot of pressure on them. WGBH's new Survivor's Guide to High School comes to the rescue. The pilot, subtitled Queen of Chaos, focuses on Sarah (shown), a 16-year-old high school junior and self-described "queen of chaos," who has just 48 hours to organize her room before her sister returns from college. Sarah also wants to reclaim control of her time and her space to become a better high school student, a closer friend, and a more productive artist. Five coaches — a life coach, a teacher, a time/space organizer, an image consultant, and a presentation adviser — work with Sarah over the course of a weekend to help her achieve her goals. WGBH hopes to present additional Survivor's Guide to High School episodes as part of a weekly series. In each half-hour episode, a student will be whisked away from school on a Friday afternoon to begin a weekend of self-improvement and self-discovery. A team of coaches will work with the teen to tackle a range of short- and long-term academic and social goals. The student returns to school on Monday morning equipped with new skills, fresh approaches to facing day-to-day problems, and increased confidence.
