Gay Marriage Vote The state Legislature voted today to advance a proposed constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage. The proposed amendment, which would define marriage as between one man and one woman but ban future gay marriages, still needs approval of the next legislative session before it can go onto the ballot. New Year's Violence 14-year-old Jason Fernandes of Brockton was the first homicide victim of 2007. He was fatally shot outside of his grandmother’s house in Dorchester around 5:45 yesterday morning. Fernandes was one of five people shot in three separate attacks in the area within 20 minutes of each other. 74 people were killed in the city last year, one shy of the murder total for 2005.
