WGBH Forum Network; Owner's Manual for Democracy, An
An Owner's Manual for Democracy Steven Hill, cofounder, Fair Vote Voting rights expert and activist Steven Hill argues that antiquated election methods and practices, from voting equipment to the electoral college, have failed to protect the Constitution's guarantee of the right to vote. His new book 10 Steps to Repair American Democracy: An Owners Manual for Concerned Citizens offers a one-stop shopping guide to what's broken in the democratic process in the United States and an owner's manual for repairing it. Steven Hill is the director of the Political Reform Program at the New America Foundation and cofounder of Fair Vote/Center for Voting and Democracy. The author of numerous articles and commentaries on election reform, as well as an earlier book Fixing Elections, he managed San Francisco's successful campaign to pass instant run-off voting in local elections. John Bonifaz of the National Voting Rights Institute moderates the discussion.
