- Program Description
The song, "We Shall Overcome" became the battle hymn of the civil rights movement. This performance documentary traces the evolution of the song from the oral tradition of black spirituals to the labor movement of the 1940's to its position today as the anthem of the human rights movement around the world. Narrated by Harry Belafonte, with performance footage of Pete Seeger, John Baez, the Freedom Singers, Peter, Paul & Mary, and others.
