Program Description

On July 15, the US Senate is scheduled to begin hearings on the nomination of Robert Gates as director of the CIA. Hodding Carter investigates Gates's career and the part he played in the Iran-contra scandal. The program also examines allegations of Gates's role in arms sales to Saddam Hussein to build Iraq's armed forces, including arranging exchange of Iraqi oil for South African arms shipments.
