Illustrated Crime Gazette, The
Program Description

This program represents the second phase of a three part research and development grant, received from CPB, entitled “The Public Television Project For Safer Cities.” Phase one was comprised of the fact finding report “Crime In Our Cities”; the program, “Illustrated Crime Gazette,” comprised the second phase; and the third phase was a summary report of final findings.

The program was originally designed to be a 90 minute pilot for (10) 30 minute programs that sought to both, convey factual crime statistics in an understandable manner, while at the same time dispelling popular myths regarding crime. The original 90 minute pilot was later edited into a 45 minute program to be included with the phase three report. Paul Cunningham hosts the pilot program comprised of footage from the Milton Eisenhower appearance at Brown University in 1971; footage of a security equipment trade show; a mock quiz show; Joe Day interviewing Boston City Councilor Thomas Atkins; a gun control commentary by New York City Police Commissioner Patrick Murphey; and footage from a disarmament conference. 1971-1972.
