Note to You, A; Nicolas Slonimsky

12/12/1999

He was one of the most fascinating musical personalities of the 20th century. When he came to Boston in 1923 as the assistant to BSO conductor Serge Koussevitzky, he held great promise. But he couldn’t hold on to his job. Instead he went on to write music reference books, to conduct and to compose delightful pieces. We’ll hear some of his works and we’ll also hear the voice of the maestro himself as we take a look at the life of Nicolas Slonimsky on ANTY. And don’t miss this week’s bonus! Host Virginia Eskin demonstrates Slonimsky’s method for playing Chopin’s G flat etude with an orange!
