Note to You, A; Mature Schubert, The

10/17/1999

You might say Franz Schubert never had a chance to become mature. After all, when he died in 1828, he was only 31. But there’s something special about the msuic he wrote after ill health overtook him in the 1820’s. As he confronted his own mortality, his music became more intense, more deeply dramatic. Virginia Eskin investigates Schubert’s later music, today on ANTY.
