Series premiered May 5, 1979 Produced by WGBH Radio, Masterpiece Radio Theatre is a 52 week series of classic drama featuring dramatizations of American literary classics and selections from the BBC’s outstanding repertoire of radio drama. Programs included Anna Karenina, House of Mirth, Moby Dick, Jane Eyre, Far From the Madding Crowd, Sons and Lovers, and Les Miserables. Hosted by Julie Harris and produced by Elinor Stout.

- Program Description
Aired Saturdays May 26- June 23, 1979. The radio adaptation of Edith Wharton’s novel was written and original music composed by Adrian Hall and Richard Cumming of the Trinity Square Repertoire Company of Providence, Rhode Island. The House of Mirth takes place in the vacuous and exclusive world of New York 19th century high society. Actress Jane Alexander starred as Lily Bart in this wholly American production.
